This is the incredible moment a kind-hearted animal lover stops the traffic to save a cat trapped under the bumper of a moving car.

The rescue drama took place in the busy streets of Jinan City, Shandong Province, eastern China, on 27th February.

A driver – named Mr Li in local media – spotted a cat clinging to the underside of an SUV that turned in front of them.

The poor puss was stuck upside down with its head hanging inches from the road as it was dragged along with the car.

Cat lover Li then immediately turned his vehicle around to chase after the car.

As he pursued the seemingly oblivious driver he repeatedly honked his horn trying to get his attention.

Mr Li said later: “While I was driving after them, I kept thinking about this little cat’s head rubbing against the asphalt road.

“I wasn’t sure if it was alive or not, but I thought the sooner it stops the bigger chance it had of survival.”

Soon after, they were able to catch up with the car in front and tell the driver about his helpless stowaway.

The ginger cat can be seen in phone footage dangling from the engine bay seemingly stuck in the bodywork.

The puss – looking very sorry for itself – appears to be uninjured as it rests its head on a towel put down by Mr Li.

Minutes later, the animal was able to break free and sped off almost entirely unharmed.

Although he risked a ticket for violating traffic rules, Mr Li said: “After all, it is a life, we must try our best to fight to save it.”
