Model and fashion designer Jennifer Pamplona, 30, recently opened up about her plastic surgery addiction to Brazilian media.

Jennifer, who lives in Sao Paulo, told Universa: “When I started my modelling career, at 17, my self-esteem was low.

“I was tall and thin, had small breasts and thought I was abnormal. I wanted to have a Brazilian body, with curves.

“Besides, in the fashion environment, nothing was good. I started having one plastic surgery after another to fit into the industry.

“The next thing I knew, I was lost. When you start following the system, you collapse with it, and that’s what happened to me.

“I had procedures on my face and surgeries on my body, a total of just over 30.

“I wanted to be an international model, a businesswoman, to be beautiful. My dreams grew much larger, but I overdid it.

“I modelled for Versace and started to get noticed by the media. Then came my relationship with Celso, and surgery and beauty became outlets for my vulnerabilities.”

Brazilian model Celso Santebanes, widely dubbed the ‘Human Ken Doll’, died in 2015 aged 20 from leukaemia.

Jennifer continued: “Today I see that perfection does not exist. If you don’t take care of your soul, your mental health, you have nothing. If we debated more about mental health, we would avoid many plastic surgeries.

“Understand: I am not against plastic surgery. So much so that today I still have a procedure here, another there. I recently had a baby laser, but nothing too drastic. People need limits.”

‘Baby laser’ is a treatment that rejuvenates the skin.

Jennifer went on: “And people have to be careful with what they say. When I was younger, a family member even commented that I was too tall and had big feet, so I looked into surgery to make them smaller. This is very serious.

“I played the character Jennifer Pamplona. I created the nickname ‘Brazilian Kim Kardashian’ to gain international fame. I usually say that there is no actress like me, because nobody knew I was acting. Until a journalist asked me what the trend for my body was at the time, and then I realised that my body is not a trend, it is not a joke, and I started to change and see life in a different way.

“Other than that, criticisms made me feel so bad that I developed a syndrome and, five years ago, I started seeing a psychologist. That’s when I discovered body dysmorphia. I made the decision to take out all the fillers I had had and go back to the face I had.

“But I almost died from an infection after the last surgery on my face this year. It was six months of a lot of psychological and physical commitment. The wear and tear with the recovery was so great that it even affected my relationship, and my marriage ended.

“Unfortunately, there are procedures that I can no longer reverse, such as the removal of PMMA from my bum. I suffered a lot in the past with this, I spent more than BRL 400,000 (GBP 63,400) to get my health back.”

PMMA, or polymethyl methacrylate, is an injectable filler that has been associated with several side effects.

Jennifer told Universa: “When I stopped getting so many cosmetic procedures, people started to see who I am: a businesswoman, with substance, who has a film degree, who is launching a perfume line and returning to fashion, because I am a designer.

“During the pandemic I also opened an NGO, Jennifer Pamplona Mental Health, focused on body and borderline dysmorphia, to help others with the same experiences.

“I will also release a documentary called Addiction, which will address dependence, addiction. Everyone suffers from them. I ended up getting addicted to fame. Maybe my desire was to feel physical pain so I wouldn’t feel the mental pain.

“Today, I have a lot of confidence in myself. I will go back to studying arts and intend to continue with my acting career.”
