A young mother who went missing with her seven-year-old daughter has been found dead in a mine shaft.

Police in Mexico believe the girl’s father killed her and then kidnapped their daughter, who is still considered missing.
Sniffer dogs found the body of 26-year-old Diana Guadalupe Gomez Cruz in a mine in San Antonio Oxtoyucan, Hidalgo state, on 14th December.
She had last been seen in Zempoala with her daughter, Odette Cruz Gomez, a day earlier.
Police believe the girl’s father – 27-year-old Larry Cruz Islas – killed Diana and abducted his daughter.

Diana’s death is being investigated as a case of femicide, but local media did not report how she died.
Officials have alerted the public to Larry’s appearance, noting a distinctive tattoo of the robot WALL-E from the computer-animated film of the same name on his left forearm.
At the time of reporting, they were still searching for Odette.

More than 10 women are murdered in Mexico every day.
