Instead, brutal Angelo Reina, 42, killed his 39-year-old wife Marisa Lea with a rifle and then turned the gun on himself, say police in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, Italy.

The double killing leaves their four-year-old daughter an orphan.

Local media reports that Reina had told his ex he wanted to clarify the terms of their divorce when they met at his family’s plant nursery on 7th September.

But he shot her on sight and drove off, killing himself with a single bullet to the head in a nearby viaduct, say police.

Reina had a history of violence, and in 2020 had been reported to police for stalking his estranged wife.

Marisa was a senior executive in the Cantine Colomba Bianca winery and had often campaigned for women’s rights.
