A young husband who crashed while following his pregnant wife on a motorcycle while she was being transported to hospital in an ambulance has died three days after the birth of his daughter.

The young dad has been named as Nusret Ozdemir, 24, and he was involved in a road accident in the Gazipasa district of Antalya Province, on the Mediterranean coast of south-central Turkey, on Saturday 8th January at around 12.30pm.

Ozdemir was reportedly riding his motorcycle, make and model unknown, behind the ambulance transporting his wife to hospital when it collided with a car at an intersection. The ambulance was taking his wife, who was reportedly in labour, to hospital to give birth.

Ozdemir was taken to Gazipasa State Hospital by police officers on duty at the intersection when the accident occurred, and he was then transferred to another health facility in Alanya following a surgical operation.

But he sadly succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the second hospital at around noon today (Tuesday 11th January).

The young dad’s widow has been named as Selma Ozdemir, age not reported, and she reportedly gave birth in another hospital on Saturday. She and her baby are both still receiving treatment after the newborn was diagnosed with jaundice.

There have been no further updates on their condition. The dad is set to be buried in the town of Ilica.
