A Russian model accused of stabbing her husband to death in a jealous rage after he brought over another woman to their flat has demanded that she be tried by a jury.
Lilia Sudakova, 26, who has appeared in Vogue, faces up to 15 years in prison for stabbing her husband Sergey Popov, 28, to death after he flirted with a woman he had brought home from a bar in Russia’s second-largest city Saint Petersburg on the night of 28th November 2020.
But her mother Irena Sudakova, 48, claims the redhead model was a victim of domestic abuse and that she stabbed Popov in self-defence.
The model, who allegedly killed her husband with one stab of a knife, has now requested that her case be tried with a jury. The Russian authorities said in a statement: “The Dzerzhinsky District Court has registered a criminal case against Lilia Sudakova. The court has filed a petition to consider the case with the participation of a jury.”
The incident took place when the model’s husband allegedly brought a stranger to their apartment and began to show her attention.
Sudakova is said to have become jealous and her husband allegedly began to beat her.
The model then allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest with a knife before trying to provide first aid and calling an ambulance.
The man died in hospital and a criminal case was opened against the young woman. The fashion model model faces up to 15 years in prison for inflicting grievous bodily harm that entailed death through negligence.
