A teenage girl has been left fighting for her life after she was thrown off a train and onto the railway tracks by thieves stealing her phone and the locomotive ran over her legs.
The girl, named as Flavia Cruzado, 19, has already lost one leg and may now lose the other.
She is currently in intensive care on a ventilator after the train ran over her legs during a mugging at a station in Villa de Mayo, a town in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday, 24th January.
Flavia was reportedly on her way to the dentist’s in the capital Buenos Aires with her younger sister when the attack happened.
An unidentified criminal reportedly pounced on her when the train was pulling into the station and grabbed her mobile phone before pushing her onto the train tracks. The train reportedly ran over her legs.
Witnesses reportedly rushed to Flavia’s aid after she was left lying seriously injured on the train tracks by the thief.
She was taken to the Federico Abete Trauma Hospital in the town of Pablo Nogues. Doctors had no choice but to amputate one of her legs.
They are currently determining whether or not they will have to amputate Flavia’s other leg, according to her father Juan Cruzado, who added that she had been stabilised and that she was currently on a ventilator.
He said: “Her vital signs are favourable, so much so that the doctors authorised her transfer to another medical centre for better care.”
The criminal, who has not yet been identified, reportedly escaped from the station and is currently wanted by police.
