This is the moment a suspected hitman runs up to a vehicle in a traffic jam and reportedly shoots dead a special prosecutor for organised crime through the open passenger window.

According to local media, prosecutor Alcibiades Libreros was killed in the middle of the street in the centre of Cali, a city in the western Colombian department of Valle del Cauca.

The 58-year-old prosecutor was specialised in organised crime and drug trafficking and had been previously honoured for his services, according to local media.

Libreros was reportedly shot five times, once in the head, twice in the abdomen, once in his hand and another in his right elbow.

The Colombian president Ivan Duque said: “I condemn the cruel murder of Prosecutor Libreros.”

Reports said that Libreros was currently working on a case against a criminal group operating in Cali and the southern region of Valle del Cauca at the time of his death.

Meanwhile, Andres Tobon, security secretary of Medellin, said that the prosecutor was probing an organisation called La Cordillera that is known for drug trafficking and targeted assassinations, according to local media.

Cali’s position close to the mountains and Pacific coast makes it an attractive route for gangs to traffic drugs to Central and North America.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, there are 182 criminal gangs operating in the city of Cali.

The investigation continues.
