This snap captures the hilarious moment a cricket fan turns the tables on the players by signing a ball before throwing it back onto the field.
The incident is believed to be the first time a fan has signed a ball for players as opposed to players signing balls for fans, and caused great amusement when it was then thrown back into play during the T20 cricket international when Australia played South Africa in Durban on Sunday, 3rd September.
After the ball got hit into the crowds, the unnamed spectator pulled out a marker pen and signed it before throwing it back onto the pitch.
The move was met with laughs from players, fans, umpires and commentators. The unnamed fan was even reportedly dubbed the “man of the match”.
The move reportedly left commentators Mpumelelo ‘Pommie’ Mbangwa and Hashim Amla in stitches.
Mbangwa said: “That’s so funny.”
He added: “He’s brought a marker to the ground, whoever that fan is, and decided, ‘I tell you what, I think you need my signature, it’s a million-dollar one, I’m going to put it on the ball!'”
And Amla added: “I’ve picked my man of the match already. Kudos to him, he took his opportunity and he’s made a name for himself.”
Australia won against South Africa with relative ease, scoring 3-0 with 13 balls remaining.
They won by five wickets.
South Africa and Australia are next set to play an One Day International (ODI) on 7th September.
