This is the moment a cute hedgehog runs around the snow after waking up from hibernation in Russia after confusing the record-breaking warm winter for spring.

The energetic hedgehog was spotted running around the snow-covered field next to a road near the village of Kubinka just outside the Russian capital city Moscow.

A woman whose name is not reported recorded video of an adorable hedgehog and later shared it online with the message: “Yesterday was a ‘January rain’ and today we got a ‘January hedgehog’. To be honest, I am really sorry for this hedgehog and all other animals, who thought it might be already spring.”

In the video, the hedgehog can be seen crawling through the snow before the woman pets it. The hedgehog curls up into a ball before she takes her hand away.

The woman expressed her concern about what might happen to the animal if the frost hits.

Hedgehogs in the area usually hibernate from November to March or April and wake up when the snow starts melting.

It is rare for them to wake up ahead of time, but experts say the animals then have a chance to find a new spot for hibernation and continue their time of rest until spring comes.
