This is the moment a pensioner riding a hospital escalator suddenly falls backwards and ends up repeatedly rolling down the metal steps before a doctor rushes to his aid.
The unnamed patient, 70, had visited Yantai Yeda Hospital’s out-patient clinic, in East China’s Shandong Province, after experiencing dizziness.
The accident happened as he was walking home on 14th January, the hospital reported.

CCTV footage from basement level 1 shows the pensioner shuffling towards the escalator and riding the device towards the ground floor when he suddenly loses his balance.
The elderly man falls backwards, hitting his head on the steps, before rolling an additional four times as the steps keep moving and he is unable to sit or stand up.
The pensioner is seen by Doctor Zhao Hongquan, head of radiology, who runs over and halts the escalator by pressing the emergency stop button.

Doctor Zhao recalled: “I had just clocked off and was heading home when spotted the pensioner rolling down the escalator.
“I followed our training and stopped the escalator before calling my colleagues for help.”
Other on-call medics and a hospital security guard are later seen carried the pensioner into a room for treatment.
He reportedly suffered a 0.8-inch gash on his forehead but had no broken bones or other serious injuries.
The pensioner was discharged after 20 minutes.
