This is the dramatic moment deputies shoot and injure an armed and suicidal suspect in an adrenaline-fueled police action which ended with him lying bloodied in the streets.
Sonoma Sheriff Eddie Engram said in a statement that the incident occurred after police received a call about a family disturbance in the city of Sonoma, in the US state of California.
The call was reportedly from a woman who said her relative, later identified as Nathan Smart, 43, was threatening to kill her and himself.
Deputies responded and they reportedly searched for him for over three hours and were unable to find him.
Then, deputies received another call about a man breaking car windows in a car park, carrying a gun.
When located, Smart fired at one of the deputies. The deputy immediately returned fire, which started off a dangerous shootout.
Several deputies shot at Smart as he kept hiding and firing back until he was ultimately struck by a deputy’s bullet.
This body-worn footage obtained by Newsflash shows the dangerous action-packed situation which ended with Smart lying injured and bleeding face-down in the street.
Deputies provided medical aid to Smart, who was then transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Deputies recovered a homemade improvised gun.
No deputies or other members of the public were harmed in the shootout.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
