GRIN AND BEAR IT: This Human-Friendly Bear’s Not So Grizzly

This is the moment a large brown bear casually walks past villagers in north-western China showing how they have come to live in fur-fect harmony.

The rare sight was caught on camera by an unnamed witness in Xianggu Village, Qinghai province in Tibet.

In the footage, the huge bear can be seen casually strolling past a group of people, and almost backing up a little to let them pass.

And then, the people walk away unbothered as they and the bear go about their separate ways.

Villagers have avoided killing or frightening the local wild animals for years and try to co-exist with them in peaceful harmony by following rules of nature, reported local media.

The video was shared on Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok – where netizens admired the villagers for achieving incredible harmony in their everyday lives.

One user, ‘Agu Dunba’, said: “Tibetans do not hunt in their spiritual world. Life is equal. I think there are too few people in this world with such intrinsic values.”

While another, ‘C’est la vie’ said: “This is Chinese-style modernization in which man and nature coexist in harmony.”

And ‘Liu Zhengjun’ jokingly wrote what the bear must have been thinking when it encountered the group: “These people have sharp knives hidden in their sleeves, don’t mess with them! Say hello when passing by, hello, hello, hello everyone.”
