According to local media, the original poster said that the ‘rock gran’ is a family friend from Kampung Pulau Melayu.

In the footage, the grandmother is seen wearing a headscarf as she croons into the mic: “Hello, hello, hello, how low…”

However, she raises a gear when the chorus kicks in and she belts out “with the lights out, it’s less dangerous, here we are now, entertain us” with rasping power.

It is unknown what family members thought of the woman’s rendition of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

Netizen ‘Qushairy Ishak’ said: “Smells like gran spirit.”

‘Thola Ahmed’ commented: “I love this lady’s singing!”

‘Mohd Mazihan’ wrote: “I assume she was in high school when the grunge era was around?”

‘Seri Wahida’ joked: “Can I request ‘The Man Who Sold the World’ (Nirvana cover of a David Bowie song). Rare woman!”
