This is the moment a man and his two grandchildren narrowly avoid an out-of-control silver van which misses them by inches before crashing into a bank and walloping a clerk at her desk.

Video from the city of Heshan in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region shows the Chinese-made Wulong Hongguang van suddenly speeding off from its parking spot.

The driver, 56-year-old Mr Liu, serves into the shrubs and across the road, heading straight for the pensioner and his grandson and granddaughter on the opposite pavement.

Fortunately, the grandad reacts in time as the Wuling van crashes through the wall of the Agricultural Bank of China branch.

The video shows the unsuspecting staff member, Ms Li, being hit by breaking glass and ending up underneath a curtain.

She climbs out and escapes to safety as the clip ends.

The authorities said Ms Li was not seriously injured but was treated for a head injury caused by her glass windowpane.

Van driver Mr Liu was cleared of drink-driving and was not found to have taken any drugs, while police continued to investigate.

Mr Liu said he was “unable to control the van” after starting the engine and putting off his handbrake.

He said: “There were people in front, so I drove into the trees. I would’ve crashed into somebody if I had stayed on the road.”
