Girl, 14, Dies Electrocuted After Using Hair Straightener

This 14-year-old girl has been electrocuted and died after using an electric hair straightener that had a bare wire that touched her wet hair.

The incident took place in Sitio Tubarao, a rural area in the municipality of Sao Jose do Bonfim, which is located in the state of Paraiba, in north-eastern Brazil, when the teenage girl, named as Thamires da Conceicao Silva, was using the hair straightener on Saturday night (25th September), according to local media outlet Metropoles.

Local police said that she suffered the fatal electric shock while using the hair straightener and that her family called the emergency services to the scene, but they were unable to revive her and could only pronounce her dead.

The police also said that the product had a bare wire which they believe may have caused her to suffer the fatal electric shock. She is said to have died almost immediately.

Witnesses told police that she also had wet hair when she was electrocuted, according to local media outlet Diamante Online.

Local media outlets report that her death has caused a stir in the region ahead of her funeral which was scheduled to take place yesterday (Sunday 26th September).
