This is the moment a young girl hangs outside the balcony of her high-rise flat as a brave cop climbs down from the floor above and brings her to safety in front a crowd of onlookers.

The incident took place in the district of Yuhang in the city of Hangzhou in the Chinese province of Zhejiang on the morning of 23rd September.

According to local media, the mother took her other child to school and allowed her four-year-old daughter to keep sleeping as she would return to the flat in around 15 minutes.

However, while she was out, the mother received a call that her daughter had been spotted hanging on the outside of the high-rise balcony.

Meanwhile, the emergency services arrived on the scene and realised that the front door to the 11th-floor apartment was locked from the inside and could not be opened with the mother’s key, who was standing outside with officers in a state of panic.

Rescuers concluded that the type of door would need too much time to break down so they went to the apartment above and got permission for an officer to scale down to the girl from the 12th-floor balcony while secured with rope.

In the footage, brave cop Tang Wenjie is seen climbing down to the girl from the above apartment and safely bringing her to safety on the other side of the balcony railing.

Meanwhile, other police officers and a crowd of residents on the ground started gathering bed sheets and other items to ‘cushion’ the girl’s fall should she tumble, according to reports.

At the same time, police officers continued to try to break their way into the girl’s 11th-floor apartment, however Tang reached her first and brought her to safety.

The crowd applauded when the girl was rescued while her distraught mum wept tears of relief, according to local media.
