The Italian gay man who adopted a baby girl with Down syndrome has become an online sensation with over 100,000 followers after the cute tot was rejected by over 20 families.

Luca Trapanese, 41, who is from Naples in Italy, adopted baby Alba in 2017 when she was barely two weeks old.

Reports said that Luca was desperate to adopt a child but was finding it hard as a single gay man in his native Italy and he was told he could only apply for children with health or behavioural issues.

When an orphanage called him about Alba, he did not hesitate to adopt the baby girl.

According to local media, her mother rejected the girl with Down syndrome and put her up for adoption. However, 20 other families, including her own, were also uninterested due to little Alba’s condition.

Luca told the BBC last December: “Since I was 14 years old, I have volunteered and worked with the disabled so I felt I had the right knowledge and experience to do it.”

Since then, he has documented their life together on social media where his heartwarming story has led to over 106,000 followers on Instagram alone.

A photo shared on Sunday has already been ‘liked’ 10,000 times in less than 20 hours.

One touched netizen commented: “How fortunate for this little that girl that she found you, and vice versa.”

Luca said that he has also written a book about his experiences with little Alba, telling local media: “I think our story shatters many stereotypes about fatherhood, religion and family.”
