Rat Scurries Around Food Display In 7-Eleven Store

This is the moment a rat scurries around a food display 7-Eleven convenience store causing the outlet to be shut down.

The incident was filmed in the district of Luohu in the city of Shenzhen located in the south-eastern Chinese province of Guangdong and later shared on social media site Weibo by netizen ‘Mucao Guangche’.

In the footage, the rodent is seen scurrying around the bottom tray of a display stand as cameraman Guangche says: “Can you see that? A rat! So disgusting. This is in a 7-Eleven.”

It is unclear how long the rat was in the food stand and where it came from, although the unnamed supermarket manager speculated that it came from a sushi restaurant situated next door.

Some netizens claimed that it could have appeared in the supermarket following the recent flash floods caused by Typhoon Lekima.

Meanwhile, staff at the 7-Eleven store said that the rodent had already escaped when they searched for it.

The store manager said: “There is a sushi restaurant next to the store. It is very possible that the rat comes from the restaurant. We have closed the store to make the environment better before opening again

Meanwhile, a representative from the local health authority said that the 7-Eleven has closed for business until further notice, adding: “We will meet with the person in charge to discuss specific rectification matters and to ensure a good public health environment in Shenzhen.”
