Gambling Billionaire Buried In Gold Coffin One Year After Death

Hong Kong-Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho has reportedly been buried in a gold coffin over a year after his death.

The billionaire businessman died on 26th May 2020 aged 98, and his remains were finally laid to rest on 30th May 2021.

However, funeral processions were held in his honour on 8th and 9th July 2020 that were attended by Hong Kong-Macau celebrities and over 100 politicians.

The body of Ho, who was of Dutch-Jewish, English and Chinese ancestry, was initially stored at the Hong Kong Funeral Home and was then moved to the Tung Wah Coffin Home while waiting for a feng shui master to set an auspicious date for burial, according to the news site HK01.

His burial eventually took place at Chiu Yuen Cemetery on Hong Kong Island at around 10.45am on 30th May.

Lawrence Ho, the second son of the deceased billionaire, who was survived by 16 of his 17 children, held the funeral portrait alongside Arnaldo Ho, Orlando Ho, and Mario Ho.

The news site Sohu said the coffin was made of golden-thread nanmu, a precious wood that is unique to China and South Asia and worth more than gold, and valued at around HKD 8 million (GBP 728,843).

It reportedly needed between eight and 10 men to lift it with others standing by in case they were needed.

Meanwhile, Sohu reported that the gambling tycoon’s burial plot cost HKD 1 million (GBP 91,091) and boasts a sea view and stunning surroundings.
