This is the moment a freight train smashes into a tractor being driven by a man on a level crossing – killing him just as a his son manages to run out of the way.

The accident happened in the Erzin district of Hatay province, southern Turkey and was recorded by a security camera in the train’s cabin.

Local media report tractor owner Sedat Kozak, 45, together with his son Mehmet Kozak, tried to cross the road over the train tracks when the tractor became stuck.

In the video, the tractor can be seen stuck on the tracks and son Mehmet manages to get off the vehicle as the train approaches.

Father Sedat is still on the tractor as the train gets closer and he does not get off it as the two vehicles collide.

Local media report Sedat lost his life in the accident after the train hit the tractor while his son was injured and taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.

The father is said to have died at the scene and there are no updates on his son’s condition.

A police investigation is ongoing and it remains unclear why the tractor was stopped on the tracks.
