Four young children have survived after the van they were in veered off a cliff and rolled 100 feet down a sheer drop before landing in a river with a huge splash.

Footage of the dramatic accident was captured by a CCTV camera in the valley below at 4:50pm on 17th February.

The silver van carrying a male driver and the four children can be seen dropping over the cliff edge and tumbling down the side of the steep mountainside in the village of Lizhui in Funing County in south-western China’s Yunnan Province.

Two rescuers, Huang Bingcai and his colleague Huang Yufeng, can be seen rushing over to the overturned van after it rolled into the river below.

Huang Bingcai, who manages a local ecology park in the valley, recalled: “I was working with my colleague when I heard a loud crash.

“I saw the van rolling down the cliff, so I ran over and called my coworker, Huang Yufeng, over to help.”

The bloodstained driver was found inside the van, as were two crying children and two more who appeared to be unconscious following the drop of more than 30 metres (100 feet).

Huang Bingcai said villagers drove the two unconscious children to hospital first, while the others waited for an ambulance.

According to reports, four of the five van occupants have since been discharged from hospital, with one child remaining in treatment.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
