Former MMA Fighter Stabbed To Death Outside Bar In Brazil

A former MMA fighter has been fatally stabbed outside a bar in Brazil.

Former mixed martial arts fighter Maiquel Falcao, 40, was found with two stab wounds in the abdomen outside a bar in the city of Pelotas in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul in the early hours of Sunday, 23rd January.

He was taken to the Emergency Hospital, but died upon admission.

The Civil Police (Brazil’s investigative police force) is working to ascertain the motive for the crime.

Falcao had been dropped by the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in 2011 due to legal problems.

He was even arrested on account of a lawsuit he was responding to because of a fight in 2002.

He was hospitalised in Pelotas in 2011 after suffering a heart attack.

And in 2013, he was involved in a fight at a petrol station in the city of Balneario Camboriu in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

The former fighter’s funeral took place at the Santa Tecla Cemetery in the municipality of Capao do Leao in Rio Grande do Sul on Sunday afternoon.

His daughter Maikeli took to social media to write: “We made a promise to each other that we would always be together no matter what. This morning I find myself alone without my hero, God has taken a piece of me.”

Falcao competed in fights promoted by the UFC and by Bellator MMA. He racked up 40 wins and 20 losses over his career.
