This image shows the huge bump a professional footballer ended up with on his head after he was reportedly elbowed by an opponent and had to leave the match.

The incident occurred when CD La Equidad Seguros midfielder Jesus Gonzalez was playing against Millonarios FC in the Colombian top flight at the Estadio El Campin in the Colombian capital Bogota.

Reports state that in the 64th minute during a fight for possession of the ball against Millonarios player Andres Felipe Roman, Jesus Gonzalez suffered a blow to his head from his opponent’s elbow.

He was carried off on a stretcher and was unable to play for the remainder of the game.
However, the referee blew for a foul against the injured player.

The picture was taken by Carlos Mario Zuluaga, the President of La Equidad. It was posted to the team’s social media page where they expressed their outrage at the referee’s decision.

The caption of the picture read: “Andres Roman’s criminal kick against @Jesuschuito1616, our Panamanian player is on his way to hospital. The biggest offence? They called a foul in favour of Millonarios, terrible injustice”.

Though the caption reads it was a kick which caused the bump, local media report it was in fact an elbow.

Millonarios won the match 3 – 2 with all three goals coming from the Costa Rican striker Jose Guillermo Ortiz.

Carlos Peralta and John Edison Garcia scored the goals for La Equidad.
