Food Sellers Seized After They Rinse Vanload Of Sausages At Car Wash

This is the can’t-believe-your-fries moment when a vanload of sausages are hosed down in a food van at a garage car wash.

The footage, captured on an astonished motorist’s phone camera, shows rows of the bangers hung up on racks in the white van at a petrol station in Bursa, Turkey.

As one man stands outside the van with his hands on his hips, a power washer can be seen rinsing the sausages inside.

Some of the bangers, believed to be the Turkish delicacy sucuk beef sausages. Were later sold on to street food stalls known locally as ‘toasters’.

Police and food safety officials began investigating after the footage, recorded on 5th January, appeared on social media.

Three suspects, named only as H.H.Y.E, 55, F.M.E., 35, and the van owner I.Y.K. ,48, were arrested by police the following day (6th January).

Local media reports that the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry destroyed 70 kilogrammes (154 lbs) of sausages found inside the van.

H.H.Y.E. and F.M.E. told the police that they washed the sausages because they had got dirty in the van.

They said: “We washed them but they were covered with their skins.

“The sausages were bought from Afyonkarahisar, we have invoices.

“We did not know that the sausages should have had labels on them.”
