The distressing video depicts a man igniting a fireworks rocket that unexpectedly launched in his hand before exploding beneath a nearby vehicle.
At the beginning of the clip, the man can be seen holding the long pyrotechnic object in his hands during the Lunar New Year celebrations. In the city of Zhoukou, in China’s province of Henan.
But just moments later, the item suddenly ignited backwards, burning his clothing, and prompting him to hastily throw it on the street.
After reaching the ground, the rocket swiftly propelled along the road, colliding with a vehicle and detonating beneath it.
Chinese media reported that the man did not suffer any injuries during the incident.
The video triggered an avalanche of comments on China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, reaching more than 61,000 likes and another 29,000 shares as of 13th February.
Douyin user ‘Gray gray gray gray gray machine’ said: “If the car opposite catches fire, whose fault is it?”
Then user ‘Mu Jingduo’ commented: “Brother, did you hold it backwards?”
And ‘Of course big ears picture’ added: “This is the Howling Wolf Rocket, I launched one yesterday that I ordered online, and it cost like CNY 8,000 [GBP 878].
“I feel like this thing has a manufacturing defect.”
