Cops are hunting two men who snatched a female dog two weeks ago before having sex with it and then dumping it injured in the street.

The dog’s owner, Francisca Navarro Valdez, reported the animal’s disappearance a fortnight ago after it was stolen by two men in the city of Hermosillo in the north-western Mexican state of Sonora.

She launched a social media campaign to help find the pooch, which had previously been a stray before being adopted by her.

Navarro Valdez was told that her dog, named Lyla, was in the area of Las Lomas and she went there and found the injured pooch.

According to reports, the female dog had suffered severe injuries to its genitals and a local vet confirmed that it had been penetrated.

It is unclear how many times the dog was subjected to the torment, but its injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

She says: “My Lyla was raped, her vaginal wall is swollen, she has a swollen vulva, she has also been given medicine and is being treated.”

Navarro Valdez said she has reported the incident to the police and the state public prosecutor’s office has confirmed they have opened an investigation.

Local animal rights NGO ‘Pata de Perro AC’ also reported on the case and asked members of the public to help identify the culprits.
