This is the moment several cops violently arrest a young motorcyclist for riding his bike during the COVID-19 lockdown prompting an internal probe into their conduct.
The incident was filmed in the municipality of Castellar del Valles in the north-eastern Spanish region of Catalonia and the footage has been widely shared on social media, sparking outrage among residents and netizens.
According to local media, the young biker had previously been fined 500 EUR (448 GBP) for repeatedly driving his motorbike around the neighbourhood during COVID-19 lockdown.
In the video, the biker is seen arguing in the street with two officers before pushing one of them in the chest.
Both officers then grab the young man and bundle him roughly to the ground before being joined by more officers.
A neighbour is heard saying from a nearby window: “Please stop, he is just a kid.”
A cop shouts back: “He is just a kid who has been p*ssing us off for two months.”
Twitter user ‘Juanju150’ said: “You can say whatever you want, but that is police brutality. As well as the lad, the cops should be sanctioned as that is no way to arrest someone. I would take the motorbike away from the kid and the badges from the officers.”
However, netizen ‘LaTerremoto’ said: “He got what he deserved.”
Meanwhile, the mayor of Castellar del Valles, Ignasi Gimenez, told local media that although the young biker has a police record, the authorities will investigate the officers’ response.
