This is the moment a Russian motorcyclist falls off a cliff while navigating his bike down a narrow trail.

The video shows Mikhail Blumenfeld, 38, at the top of the cliff on a very narrow path popular with bikers near the village of Abrau-Dyurso, near Novorossiysk in Krasnodar Krai region.

The married father of two is seen stationary at the start of the video, and then gets on the bike to go forward but starts to tip to the side.

Tragically, as he puts his foot down to steady himself, he ends up trying to stand on a part of the cliff that has crumbled away, and there was nothing to support him as he tipped sideways and fell off the edge.

The horrified person filming runs over and the motorcyclist can be seen plunging at breakneck speed down the side of the cliff before landing in a cloud of dust at the bottom.

He suffered life-threatening injuries in the fall according to the local accident and emergency service from nearby Novorossiysk who confirmed he could not be saved.

A spokesman for the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Krasnodar region confirmed that the tragedy happened on a popular biking trail, and said an investigation was underway into the death over the weekend (Saturday, 12th November).

The dead man was reportedly well known in bike sports circles after taking up the sport at the age of 14 and according to local media had won several trophies.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
