Exhausted Steed Dies Pulling Cart Crammed With Dancing Holidaymakers

This is the heartbreaking moment an exhausted horse hauling an overcrowded cart of jeering holidaymakers along a Brazilian beach collapses and dies on the spot.

The shocking scenes, filmed in Morro de Sao Paulo, Tinhare Island, show eight tourists and a driver partying as they’re pulled along the beach.

As the horse struggles to haul them along, the passengers hang off the sides and back of the cart dancing for selfie-snapping pals, seemingly oblivious to the animal’s plight.

A second clip shot moments later shows the dying horse struggling for breath after it collapses in the sand.

The driver is seen stroking its neck while one passerby tries to help it drink from a bottle of mineral water.

Animal rights activist Luisa Mell posted the video on 3rd January while temperatures at the resort soared to 30 degrees Celsius.

She said: “It’s an atrocity! A shame for our beautiful Bahia. We can no longer allow this CRIME! THIS IS COWARDLY! The horse died!”

A day after the clips emerged shamed City Hall officials announced a ban on all horse or animal-drawn vehicles.

Carriage operators, though, say the ban will leave them jobless.

A Cairu City Hall spokesman said: “The use of animal traction is unacceptable from a humanitarian point of view. However, it has supported several families.

“To solve the problem, the mayor will meet with the carriage drivers’ association and other representatives in an attempt to find an alternative for their survival.”
