Former Real Madrid coach Radomir Antic has played down a move for Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and suggested Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne could be a better fit for Los Blancos.

Antic, the only person to have managed Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, made the comments in an interview with ‘Goal’.

Antic mad the comments whilst peaking of Luka Modric’s Ballon d’Or win, Antic said: “Since when was Modric the best passer in the world if he doesn’t even make assists? Let’s not even say what is means to see him win the Ballon d’Or as the best player in the world. It doesn’t make sense.

“He doesn’t make assists and he doesn’t score goals. To have authority in the game you need players like De Bruyne, not like Hazard.”

Real Madrid have been strongly linked with a move for Belgian forward Hazard this season with Zinedine Zidane reportedly seeing the forward as a primary target.

Speaking about Antoine Griezmann being linked with a move to Barcelona, Antic said: “Barca don’t need Griezmann, Real Madrid maybe a bit more. Real Madrid must sell and review the market to build a new project.

“They have to protect their coach, who has no blame for what is happening because everything was bad before he arrived, and they will make big signings.”

Antic made 100 appearances for Luton Town between 1908 and 1984, scoring nine goals.
