Luis Carlos Aguilar Gallego, alias ‘El Mugre’ (‘The Dirty’), is allegedly still being investigated in Colombia for crimes committed while working as a hitman for Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel prior to his death in December 1993, according to local media.

He has been linked to the bombing of Avianca Flight 203 in November 1989 which killed 110 people as well as an attack against the Administrative Department of Security (DAS) in the capital Bogota the following month, according to reports.

Rumours recently surfaced that Aguilar Gallego had given up a life of crime and was working as a pastor at a church in Murcia.

Official sources told Colombian media the rumours are true while adding that Aguilar Gallego had also been living in Argentina. It is believed that he has also managed to return to the Colombian municipality of Estrella where he is from on at least two occasions, according to reports.

Local media said that are a number of suspected Medellin Cartel members from the same municipality who are also still linked to past crimes.

However, it is believed that a number of them have made secret pacts with the authorities and managed to start a new life under a changed identity.

Famous Escobar hitman John Jairo Velasquez Vasquez, alias ‘Popeye’, died recently of cancer.

Popeye once described Aguilar Gallego as a “non-drinker and the most lethal murderer in the country. He was the son of a murdered father and brother of a missing man.”
