Norway’s most successful downhill skier in World Championship history, Aksel Lund Svindal, 40, proposed to his girlfriend, Danish-Norwegian hurdler Amalie Iuel, 29, on Monday, 9th October.

Svindal reportedly made the romantic proposal in nature in an idyllic snowy ski resort named Kvitfjell, located in the municipality of Ringebu, Norway.

The couple, who have been together since 2020, took to Instagram to share the joy with their fans.

Svindal wrote: “She said yes!”

They became parents to a healthy baby boy named Storm on 1st September.

Upon the birth, Svindal wrote on the social media platform: “Welcome to this world, Storm. Mum’s resting up after a tough couple of days at the hospital.

“Dad’s very very proud. Storm is, of course, the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen.”

The marriage proposal followed after the retired two-time Olympic gold medalist defeated testicular cancer with which he was diagnosed in September 2022.

At the time, he said: “I felt a change in my body. I wasn’t sure what it was, or if it was anything at all. But I decided to have it checked out.

“I went to see a doctor and was quickly transferred to the hospital where they confirmed what the doctor suspected. Testicular cancer.

“Tests, scans, and surgery all happened very quickly. And already after the first week, I knew the prognoses looked very good.

“All thanks to that first decision to go see a doctor as soon as I suspected something was off.”

However, according to German newspaper Tag24, the sportsman has defeated the illness and is now ready to embark on a new life journey.

The skiing ace stopped competing in 2019 after winning the Olympic super-G in 2010 and downhill in 2018.

He has won five world titles in the downhill, combined and giant slalom and two World Cup overall titles.

Svindal was previously in a relationship with retired American World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medal winner Julia Mancuso, 39, from 2010 to 2013.
