This is the moment cops rescue three young children who were left locked in a house with no water or food and a pit bull terrier for company.

The incident took place in the neighbourhood of Tres Esquinas, in the city of Ciudad Bolivar, in Bogota, the Colombian capital after local residents alerted the authorities that three children aged four years, two years and five months had been locked alone in a house.

Local media report the police had to break into the house through the roof and in the video they can be seen finding the three youngsters.

They then climb under the corrugated metal roof and the kids are lifted to safety through the gap in the roof.

Reports state the four-year-old boy had been left in charge of his siblings but there was no food, water or blankets in the house. The three tots were also reportedly left with a pit bull terrier in the house.

The kids are now under the custody of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare until their situation is legalised and they are provided with increased living conditions.

It is unclear how long the children were left locked in the house and the authorities are investigating the reasons they were left alone.

It is unclear if the parents of the kids have been arrested, found or investigated. Local residents reportedly told cops this what not the first time the children had been locked in the house alone.
