An evil paedophile convicted of dozens of cases of sexually abusing children in Germany grinned in court as he was sentenced to life in prison.

The man, identified only as 34-year-old Tobias W. because of local privacy laws, is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced by a court in Cologne in Germany after he was convicted of abuse in at least 39 cases.

The man had used the opportunity while working as a babysitter to abuse the children, with the abuse beginning in November 2019 and ending in May 2022 when he was finally arrested.

The man had offered himself as a babysitter to trusting parents in the area and then used the opportunity while the parents were away to abuse their children.

He had offered his services on a babysitting platform where he included an impressive CV, including a police clearance certificate and a certificate proving that he was a qualified swimming instructor.

Most of the parents of the children had not even realised their kids had been abused until he was arrested.

The 39 incidents reported involved 22 child victims, one of whom was disabled.

He managed to carry out the shocking acts despite originally turning up on the radar of cops at the age of 16 when he grabbed a four-year-old girl’s pants.

His father had sent him for therapy after his girlfriend revealed what he had done.

After getting a job as a babysitter, he initially started by photographing young children to change their nappies, but then he grew more confident and openly abused children sometimes even targeting siblings.

He unashamedly admitted what he had done, and was even grinning as he explained his sick acts including finding it amusing that one of the children had asked him how a vibrator worked.

He was jailed for 10 years but after that will be kept in preventative detention probably for the rest of his life.

The child molester will also have to pay EUR 100,000 (GBP 85,720) in compensation to the victims.
