This is the moment patients flee for cover in a doctor’s waiting room after a gunman walks into a paediatrician’s office and allegedly shoots him in the head in front of a mum and her young son.
Doctor Julio Cesar de Queiroz Teixeira, 44, was shot multiple times and killed in the municipality of Barra in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Bahia at around 8:30am on 23rd September.
The shooting took place when patients, including women and young children, were waiting just metres away.
Meanwhile, a mother and her young son were consulting with the paediatrician when the gunman entered wearing a motorbike helmet and reportedly fired multiple times at the victim, including a head shot.
In the CCTV footage, which does not show the shooting itself, the suspect is seen climbing the stairs as around a dozen patients mill around the waiting room.
The suspect, wearing a motorbike helmet, walks straight into a doctor’s office and apparently removes an object from his beltline before disappearing inside.
Seconds later, the waiting patients start to cower and run from the scene, apparently at the sound of the gunshots.
Meanwhile, the suspect leaves the doctor’s office while seemingly holding a gun and runs down the stairs.
A woman is then seen leaving the office with an apparently distraught young boy whom she has to carry and drag to safety.
According to police, the mother and son witnessed the doctor’s murder and confirmed that one shot hit the victim in the head.
The news site G1 said the doctor’s colleagues carried out first aid and took him to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
There were no other victims in the incident.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene on a motorbike with an accomplice, according to the police.
The local authorities continue to investigate the shooting, however there is still no information concerning the motive for the killing or the identities of the two suspects, who at the time of writing had yet to be apprehended.
