This is the moment a huge rat nibbles on fried chicken on display at a Malaysian food stall in front of stunned diners.

The incident was filmed near the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone in the town of Bayan Lepas in the north-western Malaysian state of Penang, and was shared on Facebook by ‘Penang Kini’ where it has been viewed 235,000 times.

The accompanying message said that regular visitors to the area will know which stall the incident was filmed at.

In the video footage filmed by a diner at a table in front of the food stall, a large rat is seen perched on top of a line of fried chickens that appears to be hanging from a light on the stall’s roof.

The rat’s head bobs up and down as it munches on the meat treat and one shocked diner turns his head to look at the feasting rodent.

In the rest of the footage, the rat continues eating the hanging chicken as workers fail to notice its presence and shocked diners talk among themselves.

It is currently unclear if a complaint has been filed against the stall and the local health authorities are looking into the matter.
