ELK ME UP: Moment Polish Customs Police Car Knocks Poor Elk Flying As It Zooms Down Icy Road

This is the moment a Polish customs police car knocks a poor elk flying as it zooms down an icy road at speed.

A police car of the customs service hits an elk, in Bobrowniki, Poland, on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022. Police stated that the animal survived and fled into the forest and did not find any violation of traffic rules by the driver of the police car. (CEN)

The footage, apparently shot from a lorry cab, shows the police car, reportedly from the Podlaskie Voivodeship’s National Revenue Administration, heading towards the border crossing in Bobrowniki, a village in southern Poland’s Silesian Voivodship, on Monday, 12th December.

But as soon as it has entered the shot, the elk can be seen wandering straight into its path and being hit by the car. The police car was reportedly driving down the left lane so as to avoid a traffic jam of lorries.

The poor animal goes flying over the car and lands hard on the tarmac. The police car does not appear to stop, carrying on down the road with its lights flashing.

The footage then shows the elk eventually getting back up and heading off into the forest.

The police were reportedly called to the scene but determined that the National Revenue Administration’s vehicle had not broken any traffic rules.

It is unclear if the elk was injured in the incident.

The Eurasian elk, also known as the Eurasian moose, has been found in Poland, among other countries, for centuries. It was nearly driven to extinction in the 20th century, but its numbers are now said to be recovering.
