This is the slapstick moment an apparently drunk cop falls from his chair while guarding a local courthouse and is unable to get back up for over half a minute.

The incident was filmed by a courthouse visitor in the city of Moga in the northern Indian state of Punjab and posted on Facebook where it has been viewed 296,000 times.

In the footage, a policeman is seen sitting on a chair in a courtyard as the cameraperson approaches him.

Apparently uncomfortable with being filmed, the cop tries to stand up but falls flat on his face and the chair falls on top of him.

The disorientated cop then tries to get up, but squirms on the ground for some time before being able to get to his knees.

After catching his bearings, he stands up using the chair for support and just about manages to sit down again.

The police constable has been identified as Chhinder Pal, who was tasked with guarding a local courthouse, according to reports.

A visitor saw that the officer appeared drunk and began to film him fall from his chair and then struggle to get back up again.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s superior officer Inspector Jagtar Singh said that an investigation is underway, and that Pal currently denies that he was drunk at the time.

The probe continues.
