This is the moment a lorry driver survives unharmed after his vehicle dramatically plunges over the edge of a bridge slip road in a flurry of sparks before the craft disappears.

The crash happened as the lorry hauling a shipment of coal was being driven onto Shengmi Bridge in the city of Nanchang, capital of China’s eastern Jiangxi Province.

CCTV footage dated 9th May shows the heavy goods vehicle coming around a bend on the slip road and appearing to be travelling too fast.

The lorry trailer begins slanting to the left until it overturns over the concrete crash barrier, with the rest of the vehicle including the tractor pulled over the edge of the road, the video shows.

The clip ends with sparks flying as metal and concrete collide, and the entire articulated lorry disappearing over the edge of the bridge.

Local authorities said the lorry driver was not harmed and managed to call the police himself after climbing out of the wreckage.

The lorry, which landed on its roof, was later towed away for inspection.

Initial findings suggest a leak in the vehicle’s power steering system led to the lorry losing control while navigating the bend.

Further investigations are still ongoing.
