This is the moment a compassionate tram driver stops to get out to help a pigeon off the track instead of driving on.

Kindhearted driver Cihan Dogan, 28, was filmed as he went to help the bird in the central Turkish province of Kayseri after he stopped the tram believing it was hurt.

In the footage, the young driver is seen stepping down from the tram to approach the motionless bird on the track.

As he cups his hands to pick it up, the spooked bird moves and appears to have difficulty taking off.

However, it eventually flies away and content that the bird is at a safe distance, the driver gets back in the tram to continue the journey.

Dogan, who has been a tram driver for three years, told local media that it is common to encounter animals on the track.

He said: “While driving, I saw a pigeon the track and immediately informed the control centre and jumped down from the tram.

“I checked to see if it was injured, but it seemed okay and I moved it from the track. I did what I had to do.”
