This is the moment a schoolboy tumbles out of the backdoor of an accelerating school bus and is nearly hit by the vehicle behind after reportedly snagging his bag on the door handle.

The dash-cam footage was filmed in the residential development of Taikoo Shing in the eastern part of Hong Kong Island in south-eastern China and the video was widely shared on social media.

The local authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the incident and will interview the bus driver. No arrests have been reported so far.

A teacher from the S.K.H. St Peter’s Primary School said that the nine-year-old boy, who luckily only suffered minor injuries, was taken to a nearby hospital and was discharged later the same day.

He was sitting on the back seat with his 11-year-old sister when the incident took place.

School staff reportedly visited the youngster on the same day after notifying the police, the boy’s parents and the bus company about the accident.

The school also inspected all their buses and placed covers on the door handles to prevent a similar incident occurring in the future, according to reports.

The police said the boy lost his balance when the bus was taking a sharp turn and fell off his seat, tangling his schoolbag on the door handle and inadvertently opening the back door.

As seen in the footage, the chubby youngster fell into the middle of the road and the filming motorist had to brake sharply to avoid hitting him.

The investigation is ongoing.
