A California woman accused of carjacking has driven to her court date – in another stolen vehicle.

Brandy Jones, 41, accused of car theft, drove to her court appearance in a stolen vehicle, even though she was already facing charges over the same offence, according to the police in the city of Dublin, in the US state of California.

Dublin Police tweeted on 30th March: “Public Announcement: When making a court appearance after being arrested for stealing a car, DON’T show up in another stolen car!

“On Monday, DPS units located the 41 yo suspect at ECHOJ in possession of a stolen vehicle and promptly gave her a ride back to Santa Rita Jail.”

Jones, who has been convicted of stealing cars twice before, was arrested again after arriving at East County Hall of Justice in Dublin in another stolen vehicle, the police said on Wednesday.

According to local reports, she is also accused of other offences, including second-degree burglary and drug possession.

Dublin Police Chief Garrett Holmes told local media that the police received an alert of a stolen car at around 11am on 28th March from a licence plate reader, adding: “We located the stolen van, unoccupied and the ignition punched, in the parking lot of the East County Hall of Justice which is located in our city.

“We conducted surveillance on the van and saw a female enter the driver’s seat. We made contact with Ms. Jones and after a brief discussion learned she had just left the courthouse after her appearance for a previous stolen vehicle case.”

During the arrest, officers reportedly searched the vehicle and found two glass pipes and methamphetamine inside.

She was transferred to Santa Rita Jail and her bail was set at USD 57,500 (GBP 43,800).
