The two brothers, Raed Jibril, 21, and Hassan Jibril, 17, were found dead after drowning in the waters of the Nile in Faraskur, Egypt.

Bystanders who witnessed the scene immediately called emergency services but it was too late to save the boys.

Police then launched an investigation into the case, which found that the two had been having a verbal fight while standing on the bridge.

Hassan was allegedly being reprimanded by his older brother for his reckless behaviour with friends.

The young lad then for some reason tried to end the dispute by throwing himself off the bridge.

Raed was allegedly so shocked by Hassan’s jump that he dived in after him without a second thought – despite not knowing how to swim, according to local media.

Raed’s failed attempt at saving his younger brother’s life ended in a double tragedy, as the two drowned together.

Their bodies were later recovered from the water and taken to the Faraskur Central Hospital morgue, according to reports.

The case was reportedly presented to the Public Prosecution Office as the family awaits a burial permit.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
