Doctor Proudly Exhibits Bizarre Collection Of Kidney And Urinary Tract Stones

This urologist of nearly 50 years has unveiled his bizarre collection of kidney and urinary tract stones which he kept from surgeries performed during his career.

Dr Izzettin Zan, 74, showed his strange collection after working as an urologist in the district of Antakya in the Turkish city of Hatay for 46 years.

The exhibition shows hundreds of stones the doctor removed from his patients’ kidneys in over 2,000 surgeries performed throughout his medical career.

Zan proudly displayed the removed stones, capturing the attention of visitors. He said one of the most popular stones is 22 centimetres (8.7 inches) long, very large for a stone of its kind.

Zan said he also had two pieces that he considered to be particularly unique.

One was a single stone that weighed a whopping 650 grams (1.4 lbs) and the other was a collection of 12 kidney stones removed from a single patient.

The 74-year-old doctor continues to practice at a private hospital.

He warned: “Stones may occur in the urinary tract and kidneys due to malnutrition, sweating a lot, not drinking enough water, or similar reasons.”
