These images show a chopstick inside the head of an OAP who fell as he was washing dishes and had his left eye socket stabbed by a utensil – damaging his brain.

The pensioner, named in reports as 72-year-old Mr Que, reportedly fell as he was washing dishes at his home in Nanchang City, in east China’s Jiangxi Province.

Que fell with chopsticks in his hand and one of them then went through his left socket and into his head. He was sent to Nanchang University No 1 Affiliated Hospital in an emergency.

After a successful surgery, the 8-centimetre (3-inch) long chopstick was removed from Que’s head.

Doctor Bu said: “He is still facing the danger of infection because the wound is very deep from the eye to the brain. Also his brain has been damaged which will cause dysneuria (impaired nerve function).”

Que’s son, who has not been named in reports, told local media: “My dad’s leg is not good. He fell down when he was washing dishes with chopsticks in his hand.”

Photos of the CT scan show how the chopstick penetrated the OAP’s left eye socket and it can be seen after doctors removed it.

Doctor Bu said: “We must not pull the chopstick out by ourselves when accidents happen. This is very dangerous and needs careful body checks before surgery. If Mr Que pulled it out on his own, he might have been dead from fatal bleeding.”

Que is said to be in a stable condition.
