DEATH BY SELFIE: Woman Shot Herself In Head Posing For Snap With Pal’s Gun

A woman who held her pal’s gun while posing for a selfie was blasted in the head when it accidentally went off.

Eva Cristina Dias, 36, died in hospital on 21st November following the freak accident outside her home in Araras, south-eastern Brazil, the previous day.

Military Police officers called to the scene had found the victim with a serious head wound.

The 9mm pistol’s 30-year-old owner told police that Eva had asked him if she could take a selfie with the gun.

The owner – Felipe Teodoro Gomes of Rio Claro – had a licence for the weapon as a shooter, hunter, and collector.

He had just given Eva a lift home when the incident occurred.

He was arrested by police – who also seized the firearm – but was released on bail after posting a bond of BRL 3,000 (GBP 470).

Eva was taken to the local emergency room, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.

Police in Araras accuse Gomes of illegally carrying a weapon, bodily injury, and manslaughter, and are investigating the case.

Private firearm ownership boomed in Brazil under the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro, which started on 1st January 2019 and will end on 31st December this year.
