Boy Plunges Down 30ft Sewer Well While Playing With Mum

This is the moment firefighters rescue a young boy who fell down a 30-foot sewer well while playing near the opening with his mum but survived.

The five-year-old, who has not been named, left his mother calling the fire service in panic following the accident on 27th September.

Footage shows firemen from the city of Jingdezhen, which is in Jiangxi Province in East China, gathering around the concrete service well with rusty metal handles leading all the way down.

According to the parent, the boy had been playing near the opening and tried to climb down on his own, but he fell into the sewer below and could not reach the handles again.

Water levels in the underground channel were fortunately low, allowing the boy to remain in the same place though still completely soaked.

Rescue footage shows a fireman at the bottom of the 10-metre (30-foot) sewer well helping the boy climb back up the sides as his mother shouts encouragement from above.

Firefighters forgo a safety rope for the child as the rescue follows him close behind, nudging him along the side wall until he reaches the surface.

The video shows him reunited with his relieved mother shortly after.

The fire service said the boy was not harmed during the accident.
