This is the moment a Chinese mechanic jumps in the air while covering his ears as an overinflated tyre suddenly explodes in a cloud of smoke.

The incident took place at an auto repair workshop in the city of Xiangyang in the Chinese province of Hubei this week.

According to reports, a worker was blowing up a used tyre with an air pump when he forgot about it, causing it to overinflate and explode in the courtyard.

The loud blast scared nearby workers, however no one was injured in the incident.

In the CCTV footage, a female worker is seen trying to remove the tyre from a wheel on the floor as a nearby colleague looks on.

Meanwhile, a wheel is seen in the courtyard with an air pump attached, apparently inflating the tyre.

The four workers are seen going about their business as no one attends to the inflating tyre outside.

Inevitable, the tyre overinflates and suddenly explodes in dramatic fashion, sending a large cloud of smoke around the workshop and causing workers to jump in fright.

One man is seen running on the spot while covering his ears as the dust settles.
