This is the moment cops gun down a suspect allegedly threatening them with a knife and a 3-foot sword as he swings the blades at them.

The dramatic standoff was captured by witnesses in the city of Changge, which is in Central China’s Henan Province, on the afternoon of 3rd November.

Local residents called the police after reportedly spotting the male suspect surnamed Cao sharpening the blades by the side of the road.

The authorities said they asked Cao, 30, to put down his weapons, but he allegedly refused to cooperate and threatened to attack them with the knife and sword, which they say measured 85 and 98 centimetres (33 and 36 inches) respectively.

Video of the tense confrontation shows Cao surrounded by officers when he suddenly raises his right arm in an apparent bid to attack the cops.

The authorities, who said they gave Cao multiple warnings, do not hesitate as they fire multiple shots at the suspect who remains standing.

Nearby witnesses film the incident on their mobile phones as Cao finally collapses onto the pavement before being subdued by the police.

The authorities said Cao was taken to hospital for treatment but died of his injuries.

The incident is still under investigation, and no further details had been released at the time of writing.
